Hi friends 🍋

Two years ago, when I was a bilingual teacher at a prestigious school, I had a student who touched my heart deeply. She was only 3 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. It was a complete shock to all of us. Despite the heartbreaking news, we remained hopeful that she would recover soon. After a month of treatment, we believed she was on her way to being discharged from the hospital. But, tragically, on the day she was supposed to go home, she passed away.

Even though two years have passed, August remains a particularly hard month for me, as it was the time she left us. Grieving her loss taught me one of the most profound lessons in life: grief doesn’t have a timeline, but it does have the power to shape us.

1. Embracing Vulnerability

Grieving taught me that it’s okay not to have all the answers. Feeling powerless in the face of loss is part of being human. Accepting my vulnerability allowed me to feel deeply, cry when I needed to, and eventually find some peace.

2. Living with Intention

Her loss reminded me of how fragile and unpredictable life is. Since then, I’ve learned to live each moment more intentionally, appreciating the small things, because we never know how long we have with those we love.

3. Sharing Brings Healing

I’ve learned that talking about grief, even when it feels impossible to express, brings comfort. Sharing her story and remembering the impact she had on my life has helped me heal in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

4. The Pain Transforms, It Doesn’t Disappear

I still miss her, and I still feel emotional every August. But over time, the grief has transformed. It’s no longer a weight; it’s a cherished memory, a reminder of the strength we find in the hardest times.

If you’re going through a loss, remember to be kind to yourself. Grief is a journey, and everyone walks it in their own way. It’s okay to find your path, however long it takes.
