Hi pretty Lemonade🍋!
Women have evolved so much in the light of literary canon.
As of lately, I’m more drawn into books that support women’s rights and also criticise women’s wrongs.
When I read books that portray women as the main subject and focus, it makes me emphatise with the nature of my own gender.
Here is the list of books that I recommend for a start:
1. The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante
Olga, who is the female protagonist, suffers emotionally and mentally from the aftermath of divorce after her husband renounces their marriage.
2. My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottesa Moshfegh
The unnamed narrator is the female protagonist in this story.
It portrays the narrator’s POV of her own self-destructive behavior in the most unhinged yet cool and elegant way.
3. Acts of Desperation by Megan Nolan
The unnamed female narrator is trapped in a toxic relationship with her boyfriend, Ciaran.
She always finds herself seeking for external validation and love.
She is desperate to be loved and wanted.
4. Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors
This story centres around the female protagonist, Cleo, and the life of the people around her after her impulsive marriage with Frank.
Cleo faces trials in her marriage that she doesn’t even see it coming.
5. My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante
The tale of the two female best friends, Elena and Lila that is set in Naples, Italy.
This first book of the Neapolitan quartet series tells about the history of how their friendship begins.
