*Kitchen Details*

One of the most common questions about our kitchen is, where is everything? Where are the toaster, oven, coffee maker, microwave, etc.?

So I thought I’d share a few more details about where we keep things and how we designed our kitchen.

Microwave: Our microwave is hidden behind the island and built into the cabinets. The door opens down and is easy to use and reach. I love having it hidden back there out of sight from the rest of the house as it keeps the look and feel of our kitchen more seamless.

Coffee maker: We have a built-in breakfast bar in our breakfast room that I designed to be our coffee bar, but since becoming pregnant with little Roger, I haven’t drank as much coffee as I used to. While I love coffee, recently, I’ve been buying premade iced coffee, which I mix with creamer and freeze in popsicle molds that I defrost and drink as desired.

Double Ovens: We have two ovens, one built-in under the stove and the second in our island (which is the one we primarily use). When we were building people thought that was crazy and I continually got the question, “why not just stack them, aren’t you going to get tired of bending down to look in the oven?” I then gently reminded them that ovens are typically below stoves so it wouldn’t be a big deal.

Toaster: While we do use our toaster just about every morning, we like to put it away (in an upper cabinet) during the day, to keep our counters a little less cluttered. And as I know some people might think it’s too much work to put a toaster away, I’ll note that it only takes 10 seconds to take out and put away. Easy peasy!

Although I’ve been told our kitchen looks like a “show kitchen” that’s “never used” there honestly couldn’t be anything further from the truth. For those interested in seeing some of our favorite recipes, you can find hundreds of them on my blog.
