Everyone has different ideas of what are necessary in a dorm room. These are some of the last minute/ buys and recommendations that I think were very important and necessary in my dorm room.

SHELVES:

I have a total of 3 of these shelves. The 2 under my bed are 2x3 and the one by my window is a 1x3. These offer a lot of storage all by themselves while also being really cute. They hold my shoes, games, feminine products, snacks and so much more. They have definitely been a game changer for my room. If you are in a double, they might take up more room than you’re wanting, but 100% recommend for singles!

*bonus- they double as a bed skirt to hide my under-the-bed storage*

⭐️Overall rating: 4/5 (depends on space)

MIRROR:

Ok, to be so real here the mirrors that they give you, if they give you one, are the worst mirrors ever. I recommend spending the money to buy a really good mirror that you can take with you after college. My mirror is used for all the group mirror selfies, as the floor fit checks.

*bonus- hasn’t given me body dysmorphia like all the cheap ones I’ve had in the past*

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

ROLLING CART:

I have one of these carts and it will be a staple piece in my apartment next year as well as my future home after graduation. It is currently holding all of my cleaning supplies for my room. Super cute and super convenient. This is a cart that is suitable for singles, doubles and more. Can be used for snacks, cleaning, toiletries and more!

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

PLASTIC SHOWER CADDY:

Definitely get this over the fabric ones. From what I’ve noticed it tends to dry a lot faster, and it is A LOT easier to clean. I currently have one from target, however it is a lot bigger than the one shown. Personally, the bigger, the better!

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

“KITCHEN” AREA:

I believe with my whole heart that one should organize their dorm like they would if they were designing a home. Keep the food away from the bed, so therefore, keep your “kitchen” in its own area.

⭐️Overall rating: 4/5 (depends on space)

REUSABLE DISHES/SILVERWARE:

Nobody wants to be tied/responsible to plastic waste, so therefore get reusable things. Yes, it is a pain to do dishes, but you’ll get used to it. I recommend getting 2 of each (plate, bowl, spoon, fork, knife, etc.)

*remember to get dish soap and a washcloth*

⭐️Overall rating: 4/5 (if you hate dishes that much don’t do it…)

DRYING MATS:

I cannot stress this enough but GET 2!!! I came with only one and had immediate retreats. Get 1 for your shower caddy to dry on (it’s a lot thicker and absorbs a lot more than a towel!) and 1 for your dishes!

*bonus- they’re relatively inexpensive and can be really cute!*

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

Just remember that this is your home away from home for about 9 months. Make it your own, even with a roommate make you’re half your own!
