Sauce: Melt butter, onion, and garlic over medium heat for about 3-5 minute. Add flour and cook for another 2 minutes. Combine broth and milk and slowly whisk into pan. Bring mixture to a boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add in cheese and salt / pepper.
Assembly: Wash and dry the russet potatoes. Thinly slice about 1/8 inch. Layer the bottom of a greased pan with 1/3 of the potatoes. Repeat layers of sliced potatoes and sauce mixture. Top with shredded cheese if desired.

- thinly sliced russet potatoes (3 Lbs)
- 1 onion diced
- half a stick of butter
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1/4 cup of flour
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 cup of chicken broth
- 2 cups of cheddar cheese
- salt and pepper to taste
- parsley to garnish
- greased 9x13 pan
Bake at 350 for 1.5 hours
(cover with foil for the first 45 minutes, broil on high for several minutes to brown the cheese)
