This was such an enjoyable read! The writing style was very reminiscent of the Bridgerton narration or even of the writing you’ll find in a Jane Austen novel. This book was a mix of Bridgerton, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries, and maybe a hint of The Cruel Prince series. Dora, our MC, is witty, clever, and I absolutely love that she doesn’t really subscribe to society norms because she's half of a soul. Elias, our handsome and grumpy magician, melted very quickly for Dora. I do wish that we had a little more information about his backstory, as it was sort of brushed over, but I guess it wasn’t wildly relevant to the story. It felt great to be back in Regency England in London for the coming out season. There was balls and dancing and banter. This was such a quick, whimsical fantasy romance that delivered such a cute romance without being over the top. There was quite a few twists and turns, some I saw coming and others I was surprised at, and it made for a comfy cozy read. The fae in this book are very similar to the depictions of fae in Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries in the sense that they are mean tricksters. So sorry to disappoint anyone looking to fill the void of a Rhysand. But Elias is quite charming and romantic when he wants to be so I don’t think he will disappoint you. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick, cozy fantasy romance!
