Travelling from Hong Kong to Shenzhen: Your Comprehensive Guide

If you've ever tried to find information online about traveling between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, you've probably experienced the frustration of sparse details. Fear not! I've compiled a guide to make your journey seamless.

After weighing the pros and cons, I opted for the High-Speed Rail (HSR) due to its convenience and speed.

Duration: Just 14 minutes

🚄High-Speed Rail Experience:

I booked my tickets via Klook for around $15, depending on timing and seat class. Though there's a first-class option, the journey is brief and comfortable in the second class, complete with onboard toilets. The journey was so enjoyable that we wished it lasted longer!

🛂Customs Clearance

Remember, both departure and arrival customs are handled in Hong Kong due to the ONE-Port Policy. Plan to arrive 1 to 1.5 hours early to pass through customs smoothly.

This is important as they will send people back to fill up the forms. The lines for the customs can be horrendous so do factor in time to clear it.

🎫Ticket Check

We experienced multiple problems as the gate staff are unable to scan the code at the gate. They could find our ticket in the backend after manually checking but do take note that sometimes you may have issues like this.

🇨🇳 Departing from Shenzhen

No need to arrive excessively early.

Expect similar customs procedures when arriving in HK.

Speed walk after disembarking to expedite the process.

🚖Taxis in Shenzhen

Hail a cab or use apps like Baidu for convenience. We recommend just hailing a cab as most foreigners wouldn't have chinese payment methods or phone numbers.

Remember, all taxis operate on meters.

Have addresses written in Chinese for non-touristy destinations.
