beefing with a nail tech

painful lesson learnt..cheap things ≠ good things. i saw that she was having a package promo, and without even patronising her once i decided to just pay for a 6 session package. it cost $180, which averaged out to a $30/session, which was very worth because you can literally do anything, just need to pay for a removal fee for $15 or less. usually i go for extensions with unlimited designs and charms which usually start from $70++ from other nail techs.

with this nail tech i was paying $30 + $15 removal = $45…which was almost HALF the price of my usual sets. i take an hour to travel to her place but no complaints because i was definitely saving a few dollars #girlmath

ok fast forward to my first session - super excited and i didnt go for something fancy for that month. i was so impressed with the retention because honestly the nature of my job does not allow me to be the most gentle with my fingers but after 6-7 weeks, there was not a single chip or nail broken. and my natural nails grew out healthy !! obviously i thought she and i were endgame so i booked another session the following month

however the second appointment was where everything started snowballing into this huge mess. i try to reach early for my appointments to avoid paying late fees / or getting cancelled on, and just so happened that i was an hour early. but i didnt text her until 30 minutes before the appointment because i didnt wanted to rush her. however she only replied me an hour later, saying that she ‘forgot to inform me’ that she was at the doctors for having a bad headache. accepted her apology and offer for another rescheduled appointment a few days later.

this time i wanted to go for a set that i have previously gotten done by other nail techs - it was a style i really liked so i sent her the inspo pic. she did told me it was challenging for her so i said i made little adjustments to the designs so that’ll be easier for her.

when my nails were done i was quite shocked…there were bubbles in the french tips, crooked uneven ribbon drawings, not to mention my gems either dropped or rust within 48 hours. but i never mentioned anything to her because she already stated that it was something she never tried before, so i was prepared for the nails to not turn out like the inspo pics. no complaints once again, just that i wished she would’ve communicated better and let me know that she was unable to get it done and we could’ve settled for something else.

fast forward to the (supposedly) 3rd appointment, i was already making my way there when she told me that she had to reschedule once again due to a very bad stomach ache. at this point i was a little pissed off because for 2 appointments consecutively she had to reschedule and honestly it was difficult for me to find the time out of work to travel to her place just to get my nails done.

i asked for a refund and thankfully she was willing to give it back on one condition…..i would have to pay ala carte for the 2 sets that she did for me

for my first set she charged me $35, which i think was a decent pricing. but the second set was $80…the same set done by other nail techs were $68. at that point i just wanted to get out of this mess so i took my money and left 😭😭

but moral of the story - dont trust everything you see on the internet okays cheap thing ≠ good things !! also i wont be revealing who this nail tech is because other than my unpleasant experience with her, she is actually a very nice individual and her quality of work is actually not bad. maybe she and i were not fated to be together 💔

update: she blocked me on ig for no reason so i’m going to be petty #nameandshame so dm be for the @ 😬😬👍🏻
