📍UM YONG BAEK | Worth the hype???

Was looking for a good brunch spot around telok ayer and passed by UYB without a queue during peak lunch time!

Ambience was pretty good, staff were attentive and friendly. There were only a few options for their lunch menu - essentially 2 different styles of pork soup-rice and 3 other sides (boiled pork belly/maw and salted pollack roe).

Of course we got both styles of the pork soup since that’s what they’re known for. Both soups were pretty bland but we could season it to our liking with salt, fermented shrimp and green onion/regular kimchi. For its price at $21++ per bowl, the amount of meat was pretty substantial.

Busan style featured a clear broth with fattier slices of meat while the Milyang style had a thicker broth with leaner cuts of meat. Rice was well cooked and soaked up the broth nicely without being mushy! Personally preferred the Milyang style as I prefer milkier broths much like our local fish soup with milk 😂

Pretty interesting experience and overall comforting meal but flavours were not mind blowing. Likely not to visit again!
