My secrets to being happily single

People often tell me I give off attached-girl-vibes because of how unworried I seem about finding a partner. And it’s half true — enjoying the freedom I have in my singlehood, I’ve never really felt like I’m missing too much.

However, as people around us all start to be engaged, get married or build a family, it’s normal to feel like us singles are falling behind.

If that’s your struggle, allow me to propose some mentality shifts so you too can be single, but not miserable.

🫶🏼 I am the main character of my life

Life is never as simple as one genre. Romance could be part of it, but it doesn’t have to be the main plot. If someone comes into my life, great. If not, I’m still driving my own story, and other aspects of my life are equally exciting.

🫶🏼 Being single ≠ being alone/lonely

I felt my first bout of loneliness when I was in a bad place mentally, and all I wanted was someone to lean on.

That was when I realised battling loneliness requires me to a) love myself and b) be loved by someone else. While we hear (a) all the time, (b) is often only thought about in the context of a romantic relationship (spoiler: it doesn’t have to be!).

You’re not alone when you surround yourself with good people. Having a trusted community also means that when you do get attached, you’ll still have a life outside of the relationship.

🫶🏼 A relationship is a bonus, not a necessity

I see dating like dessert after a meal — it’s a nice and fun addition, not something to keep us filled. When you value yourself enough, you’ll remember: that person who eventually comes into your life better be worth your time 🤭
