✨What have you learned on your weight loss journey?

🏋️‍♀️ Personally, I grew so much while shedding off this weight. I learned so much about life, jealousy, eating, and so much more.

1. People say you’ll lose friends when losing weight, and I thought my friends would be the exception. Long story short, they weren’t. I can narrow the cause down to jealousy, resentment, and blatant miscommunication, but the fact is that we all changed.

From this hurtful experience, I learned to find friendships with unconditional love and respectful communication. The point of friendship is to help each other learn and grow, and if these friendships dissolve for silly reasons, you know it’s not meant to be.

However, steer clear from women who notice you because you are finally skinnier. They are not the people you will be able to sustain meaningful friendships with in the long run. It may seem cool to hang out with these people, but they are bad for your soul and offer no deeper enrichment. The best friends love you no matter how you look. I could write a feature length article on this! 👯

2. I hate to admit how much my weight loss was centered around male attention. DO NOT ever motivate yourself around this. After all, the man you are supposed to be with will love you no matter how much you weigh and will support your endeavors. I remember scrolling endlessly on dating apps waiting for approval. It feels good in the moment, but only makes you feel yucky after finally being in a stable, loving relationship. Attracting a partner should be a healthy side effect of weight loss, not the main goal. 🩷

3. I love food, which is why I alwaya struggled with shedding weight, on top of my PCOS and binge ED. It was hard to come to terms with the idea of giving up my favorite foods- which are unfortunately all greasy and deemed bad by social norms. In reality, food is food. All that matters is your portion sizes and frequency of those foods. Eating a McDonalds burger everyday is absolutely bad, but having one when you crave one or need something when you are in a rush is nothing to punish yourself for. Eat intuitively, but make sure all of your dietary needs are taken care of (fiber, carbs, vitamins, etc). 🍕

☘️ Weight loss may be the hardest thing you ever do, but that is what makes it so worth it. Although I have had recent medical issues, like cancer, that deter me from getting back to the grind, I still maintain healthy and balanced eating.
