what's a habit that you have that was cause by something that happened in your life?

for example, I was never robbed or ever had someone break into my house but when I was younger my friend had it happen to her. she was fine but it broke the bubble that I was in up until that point. made me realize I wasn't as safe as I thought and that these things were real.

now, every night before bed I check every lock on every door twice.
