West Yellowstone in Mid-May

The best parts of going to Yellowstone in the middle of May are…

1. Weather🌤️

- the weather is definitely sweatshirt weather and is mostly in the 60s with slight overcast. If you’re from a low elevation state, it gets a little hard to breathe in this high elevation (8,500 ft), but the weather can certainly help. 60 degrees may seem cold, but if you hike at any point, it is perfect🤩

2. Hardly any Tourists🧗🏻‍♀️

- most people aren’t out of school or can’t get off of their jobs around this time, so it’s the perfect time to visit. Go around the 20th of May so that more roads and shops are open. There may be a tiny bit of construction but it feels like nothing when you’re the only one there. You get to really experience all the sights without waiting your turn.

3. Snow❄️

- most people don’t like snow, but if you’ve never seen it before, you can experience it here! My boyfriend came to Montana for the first time and said he’s never had a snowball fight this fun before. The snow is NOT on the roads, only on the mountains and sometimes on the sides of the roads, but if you’re adventurous, have a mid-May snowball fight!

4. Wildlife🦬

- wildlife are not allowed to be harmed or touched in the park, so it’s a great experience to see them up close and personal. When there are a lot of tourists it pushes the wildlife back a little bit so if you come mid-May, you’ll get to see them up close. Bald eagles, bison, elk, fox, wolves, antelope, deer, bears, pheasants… and the list goes on and on! Never get out of the vehicle to touch the animals because they are dangerous, but you can certainly admire them as close as your car window!😍

5. Everything is turning green💚

- mid-May is when the grass is very green and flowers start to bloom (if they’re not under snow). 💐 the Pine trees are extremely green and it makes the sights just so much happier and exciting to look at.
