things i wished i knew as a uni freshman

Starting university can be both exciting and overwhelming. I remember when uni was starting, i was freaking out so hard before of the fear of meeting new people and the excitement of finally being able to study something that i love. Now that i’m approaching my final year, here are 3 pieces of advice for incoming freshmen to help ease the transition and make the most of your uni experience!

1. You’re going to be more independent and it’s going to be okay

University is a huge jump from JC, at least for me. Having the autonomy to plan my own schedule, meeting new people every class, and not knowing what to do in between breaks was driving me crazy. But this is how uni is and will be for the next few years. Sometimes this independence is a good thing, and sometimes you’re going to feel lonely but it’s going to be fine. Everyone is going to feel like this and you’ll eventually meet people like you

1. Not everyone you meet is going to be a good person

There are going to be people you meet along the way who are bad company and you’re going to recognise them and stay away. Not everyone you treat as a friend treats you like a friend. Over the years, I’ve had my fair share of unkind people but I’m glad I stayed away and focus on what’s important! Uni life is too short for you to bother with them!

1. MANAGE YOUR TIME WELL BECAUSE NO ONE IS GOING TO DO IT FOR YOU

Unlike JC where you have teachers at your neck BEGGING you to do your revision, the professors in uni don’t care. Nobody’s going to care if you attend classes, hand in your assignments, revise for your tests because they are just here to teach and grade you. You have to be on track and keep up with classes by yourself so that you won’t fall behind. Unless you have kind classmates who will remind you to study for an upcoming test, you’re going to have to jot these important things down for your sake!! You have to care enough.
