if you haven’t been on a hiking date, it’s time to try!

for us, we’ve been talking about going hiking for a long time and finally decided to go for it.

instead of going to Bukit Timah Hill directly, we went to Dairy Farm Nature Park. this is at Bukit Panjang MRT Exit A! it’s near Hillion Mall and Bukit Panjang Plaza so you can grab a bite before you start. if you’re going to start at the base of Bukit Timah hill, it’s near Beauty World!

we went on CNY day 2 or 3 so it wasn’t super crowded and the weather was just nice until it started raining.. it took us around 2 hours to reach the summit and hike down again, but also because it was pouring so we were climbing slowly + pit stops + we took the side routes instead of the main route! if you take the main route up and down Bukit Timah hill, it should take around 1h30mins+/-

ended off the hike by popping by the museum at the visitor centre and having lunch at al-azhar nearby! there’s also kopitiam and lots of korean restaurants at beauty world as well

here’s the pros & cons of hiking with your partner in a nutshell

✅ try out a new activity

are you and your partner usually not very active people? ran out of date ideas? like new experiences? need a free activity? go hike! if you don’t like exercising in general, you can choose trails which are not super elevated so it’s just like walking (but long distance). trying out new activities together helps to strengthen your r/s and build new memories!

✅ various trails in Singapore

besides the usual Bukit Timah Hill and Macritchie trails, there’s actually many different hiking routes to take! if y’all go once a month, it’ll take some time to cover them all and go on different adventures with your loved one. we referenced these lists (but end up going the basic Bukit Timah anyway hahahaha)

✅ quality time

hiking time = yapping time! i found myself trying to climb the steps without slipping (raining!!) while holding an umbrella so there isn’t much chance for me to use my phone! so i’d say hiking is a good way for y’all to get off your phones and have actual full on conversations with your partner

✅ different kind of exercise

i’d recommend hiking to anyone who is looking to switch up their exercise routine! we have been gymming all along and it has been getting kind of stale recently, so we’ve been trying out different workouts like HIIT, yoga, boxing etc! i usually do incline treadmill walk for 30-40 mins but sometimes time passes SO SLOW on the treadmill. hiking is basically the same, low intensity cardio but with different terrain + you’re actually walking to a destination and chatting with someone so time passes pretty fast!

❌ weather dependent

the only downside we can think of is how any outdoor activity is weather dependent , it’s been super rainy nowadays which make some of the paths muddy and slippery (which can be dangerous!)

overall - will try again, but maybe once every few months!
