We were actually planning to have Seng Kee Mee Sua for lunch, but there was a looOOong queue, so we decided to try out Seng’s Coffee Bar that is just further down the road.
Decor & aesthetics were good! But food wise, it’s debatable. We tried their “Seng’s Picks”, i.e. chef’s recommendation — Vongole Pasta ($18) and Pork Belly Risotto ($20). If they had marketed these as “asian fusion dishes”, it’d have scored pretty well. but they hadn’t. :/
We likened the Vongole Pasta to a “lala meepok” cuz..
(1) the linguine was not al dente; slightly overcooked. Like a non-alkaline meepok.
(2) the flavours were kinda asian too haha. What was supposed to be a white wine base tasted more like 花雕酒 😅 The clams were fat & juicy though.
Similarly, the pork belly risotto was overcooked, perhaps to cater to the locals’ preference? There was zero firmness to the bite. 🥲 It was really like a 三层肉 porridge. :/ They also added two quail eggs on top which we thought were pretty random.
What really saved the meal was the Iced White with oat milk ($6+1). Their coffee is a bit stronger than typical cafes. I felt the coffee to milk ratio was pretty perfect; yummy! 🤤 Wished the serving was bigger though.
