How I guide my reactive dog

Training your dog can sometimes be similar to educating children. There is no right or wrong answer. It's about finding a suitable teaching method that works for you and your dog.

My comments in the video are solely my observations and understandings over time, coupled with loads of reading and research. Over the years, I learn to recognise Jasper's fears and insecurities, as well as my anxieties, and work through them to guide and nurture him in a way that works for us both.

That means keeping him well within his threshold and prevent reactivity as much as possible. That also includes taking into account my own confidence and readiness. For eg, if I see a dog and I feel insecure about passing them by without any reaction from Jasper, I would turn the other direction instead.

Most of the time, it's hard to record such situations as my attention would be on the situation rather than filming the process.
