Hey guys 🥹 so I did a post awhile back on my favourite contact lens which includes brands like Hapa Kristin (extremely popular in Korea) and well, guess what? 🥲 2 months ago, I actually discovered that some of these lenses are #NotForMe at all - and yes, they may not be for you. Let me break it down for you; and why it converted me to a physical shop kinda girl now.

Basically I’ve had issues with my contact lenses moving in my eyes when I shift it and they would literally disappear into another corner of my eye when I rubbed it, even when I wore the correct side. It doesn’t apply to all contact lenses from the brands, just selected ones but I couldn’t see to figure out why. Just assumed my eyes were being sensitive & dry that’s why it was uncomfortable. WELL. As it turns out, these lenses are not fitted for my eyes at all. 🙃🥺☹️

I found out bc one time my lenses fell out and I had to buy lenses at orchard, if not I can’t see at all. That’s when I visited a physical store in Singapore named Hirocon. It’s a Japanese eyewear shop and it is located at📍Orchard Gateway B2-28, a pretty convenient location. These are some things which sets the physical store apart from buying online:

1️⃣ Personal interaction + professional advice

— When you buy online, you can’t really ask for advice on which coloured contacts is most suitable for you. In my case, I need lenses for dry eyes and they recommended Miacare to me (: Honestly, I was quite skeptical at first bc I have super sensitive eyes. Surprisingly, it’s very comfortable, almost comparable to Acuvue’s.

2️⃣ Conducting of eye sight test

— they’ll check your degree and conduct a health check for you! ☺️ this is not something that can be done online since physical interaction is needed for the checking to be done :)

3️⃣ Modification of degree for you

— for people with astigmatism, they can’t wear colored lenses with astig since there is no such offering at the moment. opticians play an important role in helping to adjust the compensation of lenses for astig - and then make suggestion to the customer. this is super important~ if you over compensate, you end up spoiling your eyes!

4️⃣ Trying of lenses ⚠️

— I was super sold for this part. The optician actually shared with me that not all lenses are suitable for our eyes, due to the difference in size for everyone’s eyes, which actually explains why some lenses move around in the eyes. For this aspect, she actually got me to wear the lenses and then she would observe the fit from her end. In this case, one of the miacare lenses I tried wasn’t suitable for me and kept falling off my eyes lol 👀

I was heartened by the efforts to make sure I got the right fit of lenses for my eyes :’) this is not something any optician has done for me thus far :’)

After everything, I decided to try out the Miacare Monthly Lenses in Flash Pink, as well as Miacare Confidence in Meteor Hazel Brown; and that’s when I saw the significant difference between Hapa Kristin/O lens and Miacare. I must say I’m really such a huge fan, but my Miacare lenses actually showed me how comfortable coloured contacts actually feel like on me and how I may like certain colored contact brands but they may not be for me. :’)

All in all, I’d encourage you to consider if your lenses actually fit you well and if you experience discomfort, perhaps it’s time to relook at things and find out at Hiriccon which lenses they have actually suit your best. I still wear some of these contacts, but when I start to compare… 👀 It becomes a whole different story.
