Save your money! || overpriced or worth it? ☕️

Hi friends, this month I actually visited 3️⃣ cafes - these cafes are fairly popular but given the price of their dishes, are they actually overhyped? 😑 Just thought it’d be nice for me to #SpillTheTea and share my ratings & review with you guys so that you know which are the to skipz and gain some tips on how to save money 💵

✨Five Oars Coffee Roasters✨

💕Dishes tried, price & my thoughts:

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼 ($𝟴) 🥔

— I absolutely LOVED this dish and the thing is, I don’t actually like truffle. However, the mash potato and truffle combination was amazing 💯 Whoever thought of this is a genius.

𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹𝗲 ($𝟮𝟰) 🍣

— housemade multigrain, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, avocado, capers, crème fraîche, pickled onions

— I didn’t quite like the multi-grain bread, still prefer my usual normal white bread! The ingredients chosen for this dish are pretty complementary as well, I like how I had the option of requesting what kind of egg I wanted (then again, I think it’s the same across all cafes). I personally felt that the avocado adds a nice flavour to the smoked salmon and bread.

💸 The portion of this is actually quite big so would recommend for you to share it with another person! This can help you save $$$. I only ate ½ and dabao the rest 😅

𝗟𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮 ($𝟳) 🫖

— Ironically, this was my favourite 😂😂😂 the Lychee Rose Iced Tea was SO tasty. Totally quenched my thirst.

💕 Overall verdict?: Atmosphere wise was so-so, and food from Five Oars Coffee Roasters was pretty average as well, isn’t really worth the money.

💕Dishes tried, price & my thoughts:

𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲 ($26?) 🍝

— contains grilled chicken, smoked bacon, spinach & mixed mushrooms with garlic-tomato cream sauce

— honestly I didn’t really like this dish at all ☹️ the penne felt a little soggy and it became quite jelat after a while. I only ate half of it and then I gave up

𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗮 ($8) ☕️

— good for quenching thirst but seriously overpriced

💕 Overall verdict?: we went to the Demsey Hill Outlet and had to wait for a whole hour… Honestly P.S. Cafe was really not worth the wait and money. The only plus point was that the atmosphere at the cafe was super cozy with a nice view - you can definitely take instagrammable photos!

✨Ryan’s Kitchen✨

💕Dishes tried, price & my thoughts:

𝗦𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗸 ($24) 🥩

— comes with potato-based side dish and salad; typically it comes with potato wedges but you can request to change it to French fries or mash potato. I LOVE their mash potato, it’s really ultra creamy!

— The steak is also done nicely according to the doneness you requested.

— The standard of the steak is slightly above Aston’s. Doesn’t melt in your mouth but pretty edible.

𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗮 ($5.90) 🫖

— good for quenching thirst but overpriced

— comes unsweetened so if you like it sweet, do request for syrup

💕 Overall verdict?: If I were to pay $24 for the Sirlon Steak, I’d tell you it’s definitely not worth it.

💸 Nonetheless, burpple has 1-for-1 for Ryan’s Kitchen all the time, which makes it pretty worth. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 $𝟭𝟮? 𝗡𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗺𝗲 𝘂𝗽. I do however, really love the fluffiness and creaminess mash potato which is why I’d keep coming back for more as long as Burpple continues their 1-for-1 😚

Overall, I personally think that these cafe food places are generally quite overpriced and over-hyped. I guess people pay more for the atmosphere, but even then it’s still pretty average.
