You Need These Apps When Travelling

Hailing a cab on the side of the street was so yesteryears. Ride hailing and private hires have been a staple for many of us in the past few years, considering that the prices are competitive to flagging a cab from the roads.

While we have apps like Grab, TADA and RYDE in Singapore, our neighbouring countries may use different apps when it comes to booking a ride on your phone. Here’s a list you can refer to, categorised by the different countries.

🇲🇾 Malaysia

🚖 Grab: This is probably the most popular app and it’s super convenient because you probably already have this app as a staple in your phone.

🚖 RYDE: If you’re down for carpooling to save some cost, then this is the go-to app. However, the service may still be limited in Malaysia and only available in certain areas.

🚖 AirAsia: It’s the up and coming ride hailing app in Malaysia!

🚖 Riding Pink: Exclusively for women and children only.

🚖 GOJO: The service may be limited to certain parts of Malaysia.

🚖 Maxim: It offers lots of services, with ride hailing as a service they have recently offered as part of their expansion.

🚕 Gojek: This is the most popular private hire app in Indo!

🚕 Blue Bird: You can book a limo through this app for a fancy ride.

🇹🇭 Thailand

🚖 Grab

🚖 Bolt: I love Bolt because it’s so much cheaper than Grab even when the rides are surging.

🚖 inDrive: Apparently, you can nego the fare with the driver before the ride is accepted.

🇨🇳 Vietnam

🚕 Gojek: Always check their fares against Grab cos it’s at least 10% cheaper.

🚖 JoyRide: You can book a tricycle on this app to tour the city!

🚖 OWTO: The app has surveillance system to protect both riders and drivers.

🚖 Hirna: If you don’t own a smartphone, you can also make a booking through their 24/7 hotline.

🇻🇳 China

🚕 DiDi: They have many tiers of rides. A local once shared with me about the scary stories of hailing these rides, so she always recommended opting for the more expensive/classier rides because they are much safer.
