Backpacking the hidden gems of Europe

I'll be away from Lemon8 to parts of Former Yugoslavia & SouthEastern Europe aka the Balkans, spending the most time in Albania & Kosovo - here's some random fun facts of the region:

👶 "𝗔𝗴𝗲" 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀

• 𝙆𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙫𝙤 𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪. It's one of the youngest countries in the world, having gained independence in 2008 from Serbia

> 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗞𝗼𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲 (read on for conflicts in the region)

• 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙤 & 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙗𝙞𝙖 were a nice union until Montenegro broke up with Serbia, declaring independence in 2006

• 𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙖 declared their independence in 1991, a few months after the start of the breakup of Yugoslavia

• 𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖 & 𝘼𝙡𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙖 were not a part of Yugoslavia, and gained their independence from Ottomon empire in 1908 & 1912 respectively

💥 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂

• 𝙉𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙖 & 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙚 had tensions over N.M's "appropriations" of famous "Greek Symbols", especially in the name of their country - Macedonia, the 𝒃𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝒍𝒆𝒙𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕

• 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙗𝙞𝙖 is not very well loved historically by their neighbours, since they did commit genocide & ethnic cleansing of Bosnians (read: 𝙎𝙧𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙚)

> They also still claim Kosovo as their own (read: 𝙆𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙫𝙤 𝙬𝙖𝙧), & doesn't recognise it as a country

• 𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖 is the only country in this list that is an EU member

> they were also 𝙞𝙣𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙧𝙖𝙦 𝙒𝙖𝙧
