Stop peeking neighbours from looking in!🙈👀

Hi folks 👋

today we’re taking about ✨privacy✨ in your home. We all know getting along with your neighbours is crucial, but sometimes we just don’t want eyes peeking in during relaxing moments 👀 Here we’re some options we considered:

1️⃣ Change our HDB gate to a privacy one

This would be the most customisable option! There are tons of gate designs that offer good airflow, mesh sizes and privacy at the same time. Bonus, it’s great tor pet owners to prevent your pets from escaping. However, it can set you back at least a couple of thousands which we didn’t want to invest in, especially since we don’t know how long we’d reside in our HDB for 🥹

2️⃣ Customised Carpentry for your foyer area

We did not opt for this either as carpentry can be super expensive! Also due to our shallow foyer area it was difficult to fit any carpentry in. A show cabinet with a privacy grill would be beautiful though! Another option would be get this off Taobao, which would cost a fraction of the price.

3️⃣ Privacy dividers

We found a 2 panel bamboo divider from our Carousell search, we loved that it was portable and had a beautiful texture! We tried this for a few months, while it did provide decent privacy, it did not hold up well 😅 Our dividers were so lightweight that the wind easily toppled it over … would not recommend other than using it for props haha

4️⃣ Door Curtains (Our pick!)

We were inspired by Japanese restaurants when we thought of this option 🤪, it provides good coverage (except maybe kids can peek in haha), we also love the cottage vibes the soft cream fabric provides. It’s affordable and very customisable, there’s lots of fabric and lengths you can choose!

❌ Kids are short enough to peep in (but we personally don’t mind!)

Overall if you’re looking for cheaper alternatives, there are definitely options out there for you! Our curtains work the best for us but you should consider a few things before deciding what’s right for you:

🤔 How much am I willing to invest considering I’ll be living here for X years

🤔 Loose furniture can be brought/resold but carpentry and fixed gates cannot

🤔 How much privacy do I want? (Full privacy best to use a gate)
