If you have a garden, don't discard your eggshells. After using eggs, wash the shells and let them dry in a container with drainage. Once you've collected a substantial amount, crush them, spread them on a baking sheet, and bake at 350°F for one hour. This process allows you to create a slow-release calcium supplement for your garden in two ways:
1. Powdered Eggshells
Blend the baked eggshells into a fine powder. When planting calcium-loving plants like peppers or tomatoes, add a tablespoon of this powder into the planting hole.
2. Water-Soluble Calcium
Without blending, mix the baked eggshells with vinegar in a 10:1 ratio (e.g., 330g of vinegar to 33g of eggshells). Cover the mixture and store it in a cool, dry place for a week. Once the bubbling ceases, you'll have a water-soluble calcium solution. Add one tablespoon of this solution to 4 gallons of water and apply it to your plants, either as a foliar spray during cooler parts of the day or directly to the soil.
