Holiday calls for indulgence and what’s more indulgent than a perfectly grilled piece of meat? Mongtan is one of the best KBBQ restaurants we’ve tried in Korea. It has 2 outlets - 1 in Jeju and 1 in Seoul and we tried the one in Seoul. We went on a weekday dinner and only had to wait for 15 mins for 2 pax. I’ve heard stories of ppl having to wait for 2-3 hours so I think I was really lucky this time.
🔥🥩
Mongtan is most popular for its straw-grilled aged beef short ribs and pork neck. The beef short ribs were first grilled in the kitchen over straw and charcoal to give it a smoky aroma and flavour before it’s brought over to your table to be grilled again on the hot plate.
The meat is so flavourful and tender and I enjoyed it sooo much. I loved it especially when paired with the cold/iced kimchi, I think it really helped to balance out the greasiness. Aside from the short ribs, I really liked their soup as well, it tasted so rich and fulfilling.
🧅🍚
The last dish that we saw everyone ordered (and definitely we must order too) was the onion fried rice. There was a burnt aroma to the fried rice and it tasted really satisfying. But one thing I didn’t liked was that the onion taste was quite strong and there were many onion bits, and personally I’m not a big fan of onion. That being said, if you are ok w onion like my husband, you would love this fried rice.
Other things I wanted try were the pork and the Naengmyeon but we were so full. Definitely will have this again when I visit Korea next time!!!
