Review of Taipei hotpot in SG (Jay Chou’s a fan)

I am a huge HUGE hotpot lover and love trying new places. I’ve discovered a few good ones and have stopped eating HDL since then. Today’s review will be for a “new” store I visited but I’m also looking to share MY FAVOURITES ♥️ with you soon. Black Knight has been operating in Taipei for > 40 years and is said to be liked by Taiwanese celebs like Jay Chou & Ah Mei. I first tried it when it was at MBS and had good impressions (it was before Covid already) and recently found out it moved to millennial walk and decided to try it again!

What I enjoyed 💖

🍲 Soup base

The soup bases were so good and flavourful and you can drink it non-stop. They were simmered for around 16 hours and taste really rich. There are also many ingredients already in the broth!

What surprised me was the Spicy Pot. There doesn’t seem to have much 牛油 (butter) as compared to other mala soup bases I had before but yet it tasted really flavourful.

🥩 Meat

The meats here are really high quality and good. We had beef, lamb and pork and they were all super fresh and tender. I also love it that they are thinly sliced. I don’t fancy thick cuts for hotpot. The beef was well-marbled as well.

We also ordered the Fried Frog Leg with Pepper & Salt which was very flavourful and tender.

🍜 Noodle

I am a carbs lover and I can say Black Knight has one of the best noodles I had in hotpot restaurants. The egg ramen was so chewy. I loved it in the Spicy Pot where it absorbed all the mala flavour. Super tasty!

✨ Ambience, service, sauces

The whole restaurant is very spacious, clean and comfortable. Service was good as well. It has the standard sauces here but also, there were a few unique ones such as “Home Recipe” that you don’t find in other places.

What I disliked 💔

💰 Price

It’s definitely not cheap here and also there’s a min spend. So I would recommend u come here for occasions or with a huge group to hit the min spend easily & make it more worth 😉
