🚩 If you're about to climb Mount Kinabalu in the coming days, especially if it's your first time, there are only three names you should remember

Timpohon Gate

Panalaban Base Camp

Low Peak Summit

just skip your “break time” between Timpohon Gate until you reach at the Panalaban Base Camp

The DON'Ts:

a. not necessary to get lunch at the registration area

b. don’t listen to your body, just listen to your mind

c. don’t skip the warm-up

d. don’t get a long break until you see the (km6.0) signboard

then, you're good to go, but here are some additional tips that might come in handy:

The DOs:

a. pack essential items and keep your backpack manageable

b. bring simple first aids pack and medicine for emergency (muscle relax gels)

c. keep the environment clean, leave no trace behind.

d. bring heat packs if you are sensitive to low temperatures

e. if you wanted to bring camera, keep it compact or get a backpack shoulder strap for your camera or well wrap inside your bag

f. take a cool shower to relax your muscles (I take twice as I cramped)

g. 1 set of cloth is minimum, but 2 sets of clothes is more than enough

h. beanie, gloves and headlight are more important than the trekking pole when acceding the Low Peak

i. between 8.0km and 8.72km, you have an option to either enjoy the sunrise or take photo with (low’s peak - 4095.2M) signboard first (if I ever visit again, will keep sunrise as my priorities)

the hydrated part

a. bring along 500ml each of carbonated water and mineral water to Panalaban

b. make sure to refill both bottles before proceeding to the Low Peak

c. after returning to the Base Camp from Low Peak, don't forget to refill them on your way back down

d. just carry reasonable amounts of electrolytes and energy bars

about the telco accessibility (based on my honest experience)

a. the only longer “phone time” is during your less than 12 hours time at the Panalaban Base Camp

b. C Telco, D Telco & Y Telco are working, but M Telco and H Telco are basically not in service at the Basecamp

c. but after Sayat-Sayat Hut (7.5km), all of the Telcos just kinda work, just not too stable

most importantly, relax, maintain a positive mindset, and embrace whatever challenges Mother Nature throws your way.
