booktok books worth the hype?! 💸💸 #book

hello beautiful people!! if you’ve been thinking about reading (you 100% should) it might be easy to be drawn into buying famous booktok books since SOO many people SWEAR by them, but is it actually that good?? here’s my hot take on some of the most famous booktok books & whether or not you should spend your coin 💰(no spoilers ofc)

note : this is solely personal preference<33

1) song of achilles (SOA)

rating 4.2/5 ⭐️ (weird ik but it’s more than 4 but less then 4.5 okay)

• i really enjoyed reading this book!! ending had me gasping

• forbidden love & gay greek goddesses what’s there not to love 🤨🤨

• this book was portrayed to be really sad and gut wrenching but i actually found the ending to be quite sweet?? LMFAOO not sure if i missed a page or what but i thought the ending was really sweet and perfect for the story

• it’s a realllly long book, starts with the characters as children (6-7 i think) and ends with them being young adults (17-19 iirc). and usually long books have no plot but i was pleasantly surprised, i liked how much adventure and things happened before the main ‘climax’ plot happened, felt like i could really bond with the characters.🤩

• may be a tad over hyped but i think it’s a really cool retelling and overall great read!! 💞

rating : 2.5/5 ⭐️

• i’m so sorry but this book was extremely over hyped.☹️

• i did enjoy the message because it changed the way i viewed things (eg abuse)

• characters felt very surface level

• the side/bff character falls out of thin air and joins the main character when she needs it?? what?? really threw me off cause it was so unrealistic 😐😐

• ik it’s not a romance book but the romance also was soo off between the female and male mc. it was rushed and weird & problematic.

• did not enjoy the love triangle either 😮‍💨

overall this book was not for me, & if you’re really young/immature to love i feel like you can have a really skewed view of a relationship OR have very good insight so would not recommend

3) the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

rating : 4/5 ⭐️

• so fun!! finished read in 2 days

• super easy to follow along with & would recommend if you need to get out of a reading slump 😮‍💨

• characters felt very real, with flaws that made sense

• strong friends becoming family theme in my opinion

• certain side characters ARE forgettable ( only remember like 3 husbands ngl, but i read this in jan) but in the moment they do add to the story and make sense to evelyn’s character

• has a thrilling aspect so it’s a page turner! recommend 💯!

and that’s my lil 2 cents! hope this helps anyone considering to read these books :D might make a part 2 if anyone’s interested, happy reading 👓📖
