It’s interview season and I’m back with part 3 of my interview series- What to prepare before your interview (both physical and virtual) to ace them! I have been to quite a few interviews and here are my top 3 personal tips! (rmb to save this post to refer to!)

1️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵

👉Before you go into any interview, it's super important to do some research on the company and the specific job you're applying for:

📌Get to know the 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆'𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 so you can really show off your knowledge.

📌One trick is to 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 about the company, which you can find in their newsletters or in the newspaper. I've been to some interviews where they asked me what I thought about the latest news on the company. By doing your homework and understanding the news beforehand, you can be ready to answer any question they throw your way.

👉If possible, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱. This will allow you to learn more about them and reduce anxiety during the interview. Knowing your interviewer's interests and experience at the company can also help you establish a friendly relationship during the interview.

2️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲

👉Insert your 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗗 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧, and ask it to generate a list of 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. You can also ask ChatGPT to suggest answers to those questions based on your resume. But remember, it's important to tweak and edit those answers so they reflect your own unique perspective!!

👉When preparing for an interview, 𝗯𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆. For virtual interviews, practice in front of a webcam. For in-person interviews, practice in front of a mirror to boost your confidence and feel more at ease. Remember that you may be asked typical questions such as introducing yourself, explaining your interest in the job, and why you're the best candidate for the position.

3️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲

👉If you have a 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 coming up, make sure to take some time to get your background and room ready. You don't want anything distracting or making noise during the interview that might affect your performance. You can even prepare a virtual background specifically for the interview to make a good impression (of course some will need you to remove any virtual bg so be sure to have a clean bg)!

📌Don't forget to test your device beforehand too. You can do this in the settings for your video call app, like Teams or Zoom, to make sure your mic, camera, and internet are all working properly. And while you're at it, adjust your camera angle so you look good and professional on screen.

👉If you're heading to an 𝗶𝗻-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄, plan ahead by preparing your outfit in advance. That way, you won't be scrambling on the day of the interview. If you're not sure about the dress code, it's always better to dress more formally. And don't forget to check the location and directions so you can plan your day accordingly and make sure you arrive on time!

and with that, above are the 3 things you absolutely need to do before an interview to ace it! rmb to save this post and I wish you the best!
