Popular Chinese Skewers at Chinatown! 🍢🍢🍢

Chinatown is home to endless chinese restaurants and Oriental Chinese Restaurant seems to be the more popular one, with it's buzzing diners even before dinner time. 🍢🍢🍢

The skewer restaurant occupies not just one, but three units across the same stretch. The spacious interior allows many seatings that are great for big groups but smaller groups might have to share tables and be mindful when devouring your skewers as the staff may knock into you occasionally due to tight seatings. That aside, get ready to be spoilt for choice as they have very extensive selection of skewers and dishes.

• 𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐛 𝐊𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐛 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 ($𝟏.𝟐)

First time trying lamb and thankfully there wasn't any gamey taste but it's very tough, or chewy, in a unpleasant way though my bf loved it 🥴

• 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 ($𝟏)

Was expecting a juicy burst of flavours from the fats but realised there's none because I removed the burnt parts which happens to be the fats. The meat itself wasn't really tender as well.

• 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 ($𝟏.𝟓) 🌟

This was surprisingly slightly better than the pork belly one as it was more tender.

• 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐟 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 ($𝟏)

Similar to the pork belly one, not much fragrance from the fats and it's pretty tough and chewy with all the tendons.

• 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐤𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 ($𝟏) 🌟

For these kind of chinese skewers I tend to go for pork belly or beef for their extra fragrant fats but somehow this place's chicken skewer fared much better. Nothing mindblowing but definitely the most tender among the rest.

• 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐮 ($𝟔) 🌟

Mad love for mantous and this was the dish I was looking forward to the most. Just look at the beautiful golden brown crisp crust mantous, looking so promising with a side of condensed milk!! BUT IT WASN'T CRISPY??? Think they didn't fry it long enough but that aside, it's still really yummy when the fluffy interior soaks up the milky and sweet condensed milk, the perfect combination one could ask for. I would definitely order this again (8 pcs for only $6, so worth!!) if the inferior texture was a one-off thing.

All in all, the skewers were all seasoned the same, savoury and spicy but more towards the latter and the heat builds up the more you eat.

💬 TLDR: Honestly, I didn't really enjoy the skewers in general and I would highly recommend to Those Amazing Times instead. Though the prices ain't nett there, but the taste is bomb and they have better atmosphere than here (super noisy and tight seatings).
