over the past few years getting into fitness, it’s taken me lots of trial and error to find the workouts that work for me! so here’s a quick rundown of the common fitness classes available nowadays to add to your routine ❤️💋
YOGA
my fav studio: yoga movement
⭐️ core, strength, balance
⭐️ RELAXING: involves meditation together with your workout - super relaxing & great to end off a long day!
⭐️ probably the most affordable group fitness class
⭐️ i’d recommend if you want to get STRONGER
💔 not as much push, very easy to fall behind/slack during class especially when you just can’t do the poses
💔 can be difficult to progress - beginners’ classes are very manageable but not too intense!
💔 it takes time and effort to reach a level where you can follow the class and get a good workout at a higher level!
💔 meditative element may be a religious concern for some
PILATES
my fav studio: vive active
⭐️ core, strength, balance
⭐️ involves a reformer (provides resistance) & weights or other props
⭐️ more structured than yoga, less of a learning curve in my opinion
⭐️ i’d recommend if you want to get LEAN
💔 not as many options in singapore compared to yoga/spin etc
💔 tends to be quite expensive
💔 leaves you sore 😭
SPIN
my fav studio: ally
⭐️ cardio, core
⭐️ EFFICIENT: burns so many calories in such a short time!
⭐️ super fun - time passes quickly in my opinion!
⭐️ i’d recommend if you want to LOSE WEIGHT!
💔 requires a sense of rhythm
💔 very cardio based
💔 quite commercial nowadays - vibes arent as good as they used to be
STRENGTH/RESISTANCE
my fav studio: haus athletics
⭐️ strength (varies)
⭐️ great for a guided strength workout - especially if you don’t have experience with weight training
⭐️ i’d recommend if you want to BUILD MUSCLE
💔 may not be very helpful if you frequent the gym
BARRY’S
⭐️ cardio, strength
⭐️ barry’s is a unique running + strength circuit workout
⭐️ used by tons of celebrities & models
⭐️ burns a LOT of calories & builds muscle at the same time!
⭐️ i’d recommend if you want to LOSE WEIGHT + GET LEAN
💔 personally i hate running
💔 not great for beginners - definitely requires a certain level of strength & fitness beforehand!
💔 their smallest weights are 4kg, which i rly struggled with at the start i can’t lie….
what workout works for you depends on your fitness goals & lifestyle! These are my current favourites: pilates (~2x/week), yoga (1x/week), spin (1-2x/month)
it’s true that lots of these workouts can be done at home - but personally i love the community and the push i get from the people working hard around me - it really drives me to do better! group fitness classes are definitely my favourite way to work out, and i hope you manage to find the ones that work for you too!!! ❤️🔥
