🍽️$6 hotpot at Taman Jurong Food Centre

📍 Zi Bu Yang Sheng 滋补养生小火锅 (#02-94)

Located on the second level of Taman Jurong Food Centre, this stall offers value-for-money hotpot sets! The stall owner observed good sanitary skills — he took time to wash the eggs carefully and used different gloves for handling raw food and wax fuel.

📝Review:

• For just $6, you get a very generous portion of food. We ordered the pork set meal which came with pork, assorted vegetables, an egg, luncheon meat, imitated crab meat, fish cakes, enoki mushroom, and glass noodles. We paid an additional $0.50 for ordering rice. I would suggest sharing the rice because the portion of food is so much. We struggled to finish everything.

• 🍲Herbal soup: Fragrant soup but a little too sweet for our liking. We saw the stall owner put a teaspoon of white substance into our soup just before serving us. We suspected that it was sugar because the soup tasted sweet. He added goji berries as well which added sweetness to the soup.

• 🌶️Mala soup: I prefer this soup over the herbal one! It was oily and spicy, with a mild tinge of numbness. It would be great to pair this soup with rice to cut the oiliness.

• The speed of service was quite slow because there was only one person at the stall handling everything. The stall opened at 5:30pm, and we arrived slightly past 6pm. When we arrived, there was already a queue of people in front of us, and we waited about 30 mins for our turn to order. Despite the relatively slow service, I appreciate that the stall owner cautiously practised sanitary when preparing the food.

Was it worth the wait? YES - for its generous portion and value-for-money food. I would come again to try out other soup bases.
