The 1950s Homemaker's Schedule Challenge

I would love to have this book, but I can't spend so much on a book I know my kids would eventually rip up. Maybe one day...

So, I found an archive online where you can read this book and I found it fascinating! Here's the challenge:

Keep up this 1950s homemaker's schedule for one week. There was nothing for Sunday, but I'm assuming that day was saved for church and potlucks and such bc back then everything was closed on Sundays and it was typically a family type day. Let me know it helped you be more productive, if you loved/hated it, if you are going to adopt it into your schedule or if you're never doing it again. Let me know if you have up early.

Weekly tasks:

Monday: groceries and kitchen

Tuesday: laundry

Wednesday: bedrooms and bathrooms

Thursday: linens and living room

Friday: groceries, defrost fridge, dining room, and halls

Weekend: free day/family day

Daily Tasks:

KITCHEN: put away food, clean coffee grounds, wash dishes & sink, sweep. empty and sterilize trash can.

BEDROOMS: hang up night clothes, make beds, straighten knick knacks & dust, dust & vacuum blinds.

LIVING ROOM: discard faded flowers & old magazines, dust furniture & fluff pillows, stack magazines & return anything out of place, remove surface litter (meaning throw away any trash sitting around).

DINING ROOM & HALLS: same as living room and sweep after each meal.

A lot of these daily tasks I do weekly or monthly and as far as defrosting the fridge -- well, we don't have to do that anymore so let's change DEFROST to CLEAN/WIPE OUT.

Along, with this cleaning schedule that normally began around 6:30am, women also had to dress for the day, fix their hair and do their makeup, so let's add this in there, as well. Women of that time always had a morning and a nightly beauty routine.
