Ok so quick intro!! Me and my boyfriend have been together for 9 years. We first got together when I was 16, and he was 18. He’s a Burmese, grew up in Singapore and I’m a Singaporean Chinese.

We got to know each other in our secondary school but did not date until O’levels are over! My mum is quite strict and I know she wouldn’t allow me to date while I was still studying and being a good girl, I dint 🤣 On the other hand, my boyfriend’s parents are pretty open about this!

How did our parents react?! 🤔

My boyfriend’s parents are totally cool!! On the other hand, my mum is not ok with it at the start as I’m the first person in the entire family who have a different race boyfriend. Subsequently, she became ok with it! However my grandma is more traditional and would nag at me about it. 😤

And just like other couples, we have our differences, and love is more than our skin colour. And that’s the beauty of an interracial relationship, when we are open with each other, we can broaden each other's perspectives, approach the world in different ways, and find that connection in our differences!! So no racism pls 🤣

✅ Accept and love your partner for who they are

✅ Don’t take negative comments so seriously

As long as he / she is a good person and both of you can vibe and connect, nothing else really matters and don’t ever give up on each other just because others have negative comments!
