Hey Zesties🍋

Just a little backstory about me, I left my FT job last year august and turned into a freelancer for 1 year + now and here’s some of the things I learn from it!

1. You are your own boss - how hard you want it, you got to put in the effort to get it. Job shifts to pick up, you want it, then get those slots !! I always try my best to pick up shifts as much as I can because I know I need to hustle and earn those moolahs since I am paid based on the amount of job / shifts I do. Some months I hustle harder than the other months.

2. Zero Commitments - I absolutely love it because I get to travel as and when I would like to, take breaks when I feel too overwhelmed, don’t have to be tied down to 14 days of annual leave a year, trying to save and plan those 14 days wisely. But that also means, if I take a day off, I am losing a day’s worth of income, I also do not have company benefits like well-being perks, insurance, bonuses.

3. You are your own motivation - No one can push you harder than you push yourself. Freelancing holds a lot of discipline, the drive to constantly look for more opportunities, pick up jobs, going out of comfort zone to try out new things. I am still working on this because as I grow older, I am definitely more afraid of trying new things…

4. Lack in progression - income does not goes up as stable as a corporate job does, it goes up according to how much jobs you have in hand, how much each of these jobs are paid. We all only have 24 hours a day, we gotta spend it wisely.

5. Work-life balance - when you am hustling for travels or just to save up for that house with your partner, you got to sacrifice on things like going out with friends because there will not be much time to do so since you are always on jobs after jobs. Resting enough is really the priority, at times I would have to sacrifice my hobby to do so and to make time for my runs. For days I hustle, I start work at 12:30pm, I would start my day at 7am for a run, have breakfast, rest a little, head to work and my day ends at 11pm. Then head home to shower and sleep and repeat again. I try to take weekends off if I could but I also do some work here and there like half a day.

For someone who does not enjoy 9-5, I would much rather do freelance roles, even if that means I have to work 12 hours at times. I like and enjoy what I am doing, rather than just getting a job because of its stability but dreading to go for work.

I aspire to start my own brand and I hope to work towards it soon✨

Thank you for reading and I would love to know about your career journey in the comments💛
