Melaka Part II - JONKER WALK ✨

After reading Melaka Part I, here’s a Part II of the trip which is also the highlight because we went to JONKER WALK !! It was my first time there and I definitely enjoyed myself very much strolling around in Jonker and enjoying the food that they have there. Here’s what my friends and I have tried !

DRAGON’S BEARD CANDY - A very classic dessert yet very hard to make it good and tasty, this candy is made on the spot. It’s super fresh and when you put it into your mouth, it melts nicely yet not too tough to chew. Peanuts on the inside are super fragrant but I would prefer it to be more fine as it was quite coarse and crunchy. 8 pieces in a box at RM12. But do take your time to stroll as there are more than 1 store that sells this, some has different flavours and colours of the dragon’s beard is different as well. I saw some stores selling sweet potato ones where it’s purple in colour ! Remember to share it with your friends because 8 pieces might be a little too cloying for 1 person imo!

TANGHULU - I WAS SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS ONE WHEN MY FRIEND GOT IT! So pretty on the outside with a thin layer of sugar, crunchy and the sourness of the strawberry complimented really well with the sweetness of the sugar coating. Super addicted and I just wanna keep eating it! One stick is not enough😋😋Knew this was going to be good because it’s a combination of foods that cannot go wrong! Saw some stores selling the oranges one too!

CHICKEN RICE BALLS - Please go to this store for chicken rice balls, this is the most authentic ones as compared to those restaurants ones and there’s sooooo many stores selling chicken rice balls since it’s the MAIN thing here located in Jonker Street. (Refer to the last photo) The rice balls are really soft and chewy, does not fall apart and it is really similar like glutinous rice dumplings. We ordered half roasted chicken, 11 rice balls, 1 plate of rice, 1 plate of roasted pork and it only costed RM50?! The auntie was super duper cute and nice I love her so much 🥺 She gave us a option to choose between with bones or without for the roasted chicken, we got the boneless one. It is super tender, juicy and flavourful with lots of cucumbers as well. The chicken rice chilli is very very good and goes really well with the rice and the chicken!! Roasted pork had a good amount of fats and meat and the CRUNCH wow!! I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE😩 The next day I went back again to get 3 more rice balls as a snack HEHEH. Can’t wait to head back to Jonker again to see her and eat her good food!!

FRUIT JELLIES - HEHEEH ITS SOO CUTE MY INNER CHILD WANTED IT. This is such childhood snack where the jellies are in a cup idk if you all had it before, so I gotta get it. This one was so different though because the jellies has a bite to it and chewy but not too sweet, will not make me feel guilty after eating this HEHHE. But for RM8 this is a little pricey!

CREPES - Ever since the one near town has closed, I have been wanting to eat crepes but in SG crepes are like $6-7 + which is really costly, so I’m glad I can have them here HEHEHE. A lot of stores sell this at Jonker as well, so you may want to see see which one is better! The stores all have similar flavours so we got the classic chocolate banana combo! Cannot go wrong option and our crepe were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Crepes shouldn’t be too crispy if not everything just falls apart and crumbs everywhere like tissue prata imo.

PAUS/MANTOU STORE - The moment I saw this, the cuteness got me, look at those Sanrio characters !! Always love to eat mantou because it’s sweet and plain so I got the hello kitty one for RM2! i love it HEHEH heals my inner child, chewy, sweet and warm.

HONEY LEMON PASSIONFRUIT - The ONLY beverage that we kept going back for. This honey lemon passionfruit is really good, also a very popular item where there’s more than 1 store selling it. Sweet and tangy with a crunch from the passion fruits seeds, super refreshing for the hot day and cleans your palette from the oily food. Uncle also lets you do a taste test once your drink is done, if you want it less sweet or more sour, let him know and he will do it accordingly !!

FYI, Jonker street only opens on the weekends, 6pm onwards, do dress comfortably as it will be super crowded, squeezy and warm! I would recommend trying the chicken rice balls, tanghulu and honey lemon drink!! ❤️
