In my last post, I shared how to get from Hong Kong (Kowloon West) to Shenzhen (Futian) in just 13 minutes! Chatting with some locals, I found out Shenzhen is a hot spot for Hong Kongers. Here are some places we explored during our day trip to SZ🇨🇳

‼️ TIPS:

• Download Alipay (I preferred this)/ WeChat and setup all your cards before you enter China. Fret not, they still accept cash if you’re worried about 3% charges abv 200yuan.

• Use Didi to get around! It’s super easy to book through Alipay. Search in Chinese for more accurate results.

• They mainly use Alipay/WeChat to order food even when dining in/ for takeaway, have it ready!

1. INJOY Mall 卓悅匯購物中心 🛍️

• 🍴 Lunch: Coconut Chicken @ 润园四季叶子鸡. This dish was actually invented in Shenzhen. It’s chicken cooked in a coconut water broth, making it light, refreshing, sweet, and savory. If you find it odd, just dip the chicken in soy sauce, and it will taste more familiar—hahaha. My set for two comes with prawn paste, amazing claypot rice, and tons of veggies. Honestly, I think it’s enough to feed 3-4 HAHA

‼️ You can pre-purchase your meal at a discounted price on the 大众点评 app.

• 🧋 BBT Fix: There’s a whole street of bubble tea shops like 阿嬷手作, HEYTEA, and Chagee. Sadly, I was too full to try them all! 😭🧋

2. Nantou Ancient City 南头古城 🏰

This spot is a mix of old-school architecture and cool spots:

• 📸 Instagrammable Spots: So many cute spots! Look at my MIL in her slaying era too.

• ☕️🍴 Cafes and Small Restaurants: Tons to choose from.

• 🍋: Must try the Duck Shit Oolong Lemon Tea. This brand invented this particular drink. I couldn’t get enough of it in Macau & HK, so glad to find the original in SZ 🥹

3. The Mixc 萬象天地 🏙️

One of Shenzhen’s top malls, they have a lot of outdoor pop-ups/aesthetic cafes and bakeries. The stores are mainly international brands like Zara, Massimo etc but you can also find somgmont!!

• 🍴 Qing Chun Perma: We came here just for this vegetarian restaurant. It’s so good that we all forgot we were missing meat. You have to try their truffle fried rice, spicy tofu, and braised eggplant!! They don’t take reservations, so we walked in at 5pm and the queue was snaking when we finished our dinner around 6:30pm
