Cortisol is probably the worst thing for your overall mental and physical well-being. Don’t even think about making progress when your cortisol levels are out of whack.
Stress increases higher levels of cortisol, and higher levels of cortisol can create even bigger hormonal imbalances!
Here are a few tips that I continued to use to manage my stress and cortisol levels in a healthy way:
1. Whole food, single ingredient, focused diet
The more additives and preservatives that are in your foods, the worse it is for your gut health. Your gut health directly affect your overall hormonal levels. So, focussing on a whole single ingredient diet will allow you to manage your hormones, reduce inflammation, and lower cortisol levels.
2. High antioxidant foods
Antioxidants provide anti-inflammatory affects. They also have been known to aid in reducing cortisol levels.
3. Focus on vitamins and minerals
Having a solid vitamin regimen is not only important for your physical health, but also for your hormone levels. Vitamins like vitamin D are great for mood boosting, which in turn, can reduce cortisol levels.
4. Low impact movement
Weight training is always great for your physical appearance and for building strength. However, those high impact movements can increase cortisol levels throughout your body. Low impact movement, like walking, yoga, Pilates, etc. are all amazing for being active while reducing cortisol levels.
