In Beijing, you must come to Dazhalan (da shi lan er) for a stroll

Dazhalan

Dazhalan is a famous commercial street outside Qianmen, Beijing, formerly known as Langfang Sijie, with a history of nearly 500 years.

Historical Origin:

In the first year of Ming Hongzhi, in order to control the social security of the capital, a wooden fence was set up at the entrance of each street in Beijing, and the fence was built by the residents of the location.

There are two arguments as to why it was called Da Jie Lan (da shi lan er):

1️⃣it is a special pronunciation of the name of the place

2️⃣is to avoid renaming another place called Da Jie Lan (da zha lan)

If you happen to finish shopping in Tiananmen Square, you can spend half a day there.
