My guide to getting better at English 📚📝

Hi guys! Today’s post is very exciting and special because I received a comment under one of my other study guide posts requesting that I make a post about how to get better at studying English!! I am always happy to take requests 🥰💌Even though I am a STEM major, I have been good at the humanities throughout high school (I took both AP Englishes) and I am currently taking a reading-heavy humanities course.

📚Reading

I got better at reading by making sure to define words, terms, and concepts I didn’t understand. It may be a bit annoying to do at first, but it saves you so much time in the long run! Also, it may be helpful to skim the reading first looking for key ideas, and then dive into all the details.

📝Writing

I love writing academic essays, and I always start by making an outline of what I want to cover in each paragraph. Having this overview is always super helpful! Also, make sure that all your arguments are supported by evidence/research, and fully explain your thinking. Once I’ve put down all my thoughts, I go back and make sure all my paragraphs transition smoothly and that I’m using appropriate, formal language.
