Hello again! Looking for a new place to eat this summer? Look no further as today I will be sharing about my recent experience at the newest Korean pop up in Singapore - My Chef is Korean Oppa! - at Market Blue, Tanglin Mall !

If you haven’t already heard, this pop up is by popular Korean celebrity chefs Lee Wonil & Hong Seokcheon, offering a wide variety of authentic Korean fare from kalguksu (knife cut noodles), to gukbap (soup with rice), sotbap (rice in pot) and more…! 🤩

We went as a big group so we got to eat many different dishes, and they really didn’t disappoint!!! Here’s what we tried:

1. DAEGU YUKGAEJANG GUKBAP ($18.50) 🥘

This was such a warm and comforting dish! The pearl rice soaks up all the very flavoursome spicy beef broth, a delicious match made in heaven! Kinda reminds me of when I douse my rice with spicy tofu soup!

This was one of my fave dishes the first time I patronised the store, but I was quite disappointed during my second visit when the soup was inconsistent and watered down…

Pro tip: I think you should still order it and give it a try, but if your soup ends up bland please ask for a new bowl (I regret not doing so…)

2. MUL NANGMYUN ($17.50) 🧊🍜

I’m a big fan of korean cold noodles and this was super delicious and refreshing!!! We added more vinegar to our taste to make it more tangy! A super great way to cleanse the palette in between heavier tasting dishes!

3. SEA BREAM SOTPOT ($28.50) 🍲🐟

Another one of my top dishes that day, the sea bream sotpot is a MUST TRY!!! It was my first time trying sotpot which has become very popular recently and this was a wonderful rendition of the dish! The fish was really fresh, and I loved the crunch from the pops of ikura (salmon roe) and tobiko (flying fish roe).

The tangy sauce that comes with the rice elevates the flavour of the dish, and the added dimension you get after adding the broth makes you feel like you’re eating two dishes instead of one! Highly recommend try this out! I’ve had this twice and it hasn’t disappointed!

4. KIMCHI PANCAKE ($16.50) 🍕

A very delicious kimchi pancake which was crispy on the outside and fluffy / chewy on the inside! Loved the tangy sauce that was the perfect complement as well!

⭐️: 5/5

5. SHORT RIB SOTBAP ($33.50) 🥩

Another yummy rice pot dish, this time with beef short ribs! I loved the addition of a runny egg yolk which made the rice creamier. The beef was okay and was rather tender, but the sea bream version was my preference!

⭐️: 3.5/5

6. CLAM NOODLES ($18.50) 🐚🍜

If you like something that is lighter tasting, this dish is for you! The broth is slightly sweet from the clams, and the clams are really fresh (they taste like the sea) and plump! The noodles have a nice bite too!

🤔 THE VERDICT 🤔

All in all, we were really satisfied because the food was authentic and delicious! You can tell it’s authentic when the people dining around you are all speaking Korean… 😅

GOOD NEWS: You don’t have to rush down, because this pop up has been extended till… I have no clue when because the restaurant hasn’t set an end date!

So if you’re a huge fan of Korean food just like me, do head on down to Market Blue at Tanglin Mall to try out this new place! 🤭
