Hello! I’m so excited about this summer because…we finally started renovation at our new place last week!!! 🥳

In this Reno Diaries series, I will be logging about our renovation progress, as well as sharing some tips for those who are planning to start their renovation soon!

WEEK 1: HACKING & HAULAGE ⚒️

The first week of reno is typically the hacking and haulage stage!

- Hacking: Getting rid of the things that you don’t plan to keep, such as tiles, vinyl, skirting, carpentry, toilet fittings, windows, aircons, partition walls… you get the idea!

- Haulage: The hackers are usually the ones who help to bring up materials such as cement, tiles, protective paper… etc!

In the above photos, you can see the before and after comparison of some of our rooms and the works we did. A short summary below:

🍳 KITCHEN / SERVICE YARD

- Hacked floor tiles and carpentry, and our service yard door frame

🛋️ LIVING ROOM

- Hacked away false ceilings, skirting and window grilles

- We didn’t do anything to the HDB tiles since they were in good condition and we are planning to overlay!

🛌 MASTER BEDROOM / STUDY

- We did the same thing in both rooms, hacked vinyl flooring, skirting, false ceilings, wardrobe and window grilles

🚽 MASTER TOILET

- Although the original master bath looked pretty modern, it wasn’t the theme we wanted so we decided to hack the whole bathroom!

- Hacked floor and wall tiles, removed bathroom fittings

🚰 COMMON TOILET (not pictured)

- No pictures but we are just doing overlay! Wanted to save costs, and coincidentally our common toilet was still in the original HDB condition.

- We just removed the toilet fittings, since we were going to purchase new ones.

🍽️ DINING AREA (not pictured)

- Basically similar to the living room, but we also backed away from fixtures such as some shelving planks and a daybed. This made the dining area much more spacious!

Andddd that concludes week 1 of our renovation journey! Tbh our hacking & haulage was super quick - it only took around 2 days since it wasn’t too complicated.

Excited for week 2 of reno, which consists of electrical and plumbing works, as well as our tiling discussion! ⚡️🪠

Stay tuned for my next post to find out more about our renovation progress! ☺️
