BKK Food Reco | Is On Lok Yun worth it? 🤔🤨

Hi zesties! Hope you guys are having a good week so far. Wanted to share with you guys my honest reviews on On Lok Yun, and you can decide for yourself if it is worth the trip down by the end of this. 😁

Location: 72 Charoen Krung Rd, Samphanthawong, Bangkok 10100, Thailand (It's located somewhere in Chinatown; I took a grab here from my accoms bc it was more convenient!)

Opening Hours: 6am-2.30pm - This is defo a breakfast place. Make sure to come early and be account for some queueing time!

I arrived at 10.30am and was assigned a queue number. We had to wait for about 35 mins before we got a assigned a seat! I believe if we arrived earlier we would have gotten a better number.

First impressions: I was definitely taken aback when I saw the prices bc it was super cheap! My bf and I decided to order their signature dishes to try and even that costs us less than $10 per pax.

Must-Try Dishes:

1️⃣ 2 Eggs + 4 Toppings (with sausage, bacon etc)

• This was def my favourite! While it's a very simple homely dish, it's really well cooked and its super shiok when you dip it with ketchup. A familiar yet homely taste!

2️⃣ Half-boiled egg

• I personally enjoy eating half-boiled eggs back in SG so I was very curious to see how this turned out. Was pleasantly surprised by the cup and honestly the experience was again very shiok to have drank the egg from it 🤣 Taste wise - couldnt go too wrong!

3️⃣ Bread + Kaya & Condensed Milk

• I saw piles and piles of bread sitting around the restaurant so I sort of could tell they specialised in bread - I had to give it a try!

• Taste was good and bread was fluffy! But a simple dish, don't think it could have gone very wrong

So..... here comes the million dollar qn - is it worth the trip? is it overhyped?

• Personally, I wouldnt queue for more than 45 mins here!

• Why? Dishes are simple but homely. Don't think there is any "speciality" dish we can't get back here in SG

• But - I must say there was something very comforting about having a very "old school breakfast". My partner and I definitely enjoyed our experience here! In terms of value, service, taste, I don't think we would rate the place poorly. After all, there is some hype to this.

• a 7/10 for me overall!
