This Town Inspired Gilmore Girls’ Stars Hollow

Calling all Gilmore Girls fans! Did you know that the fictional town of Stars Hollow from Gilmore girls was inspired by a real place in Connecticut?

🍁 The small town of Washington Depot, Connecticut, is said to have inspired the Gilmore Girls creator’s vision of Stars Hollow.

🍂 Since Gilmore girls is a well loved fall comfort show, Washington Depot is a great place to visit in the fall. So keep reading for a Gilmore girls inspired autumn travel guide.

🚗 We didn’t stay overnight, because we stopped by the town on a road trip. We spent about 2 hours here. It is a very small place so you don’t need more time, unless you’re planning to stay overnight and enjoy your resort/hotel.

🛌 Washington Depot is home to the elegant Mayflower Inn, which may have inspired the Independence Inn in Gilmore Girls.

This luxury hotel feels like a high-end country retreat. You can spend the weekend enjoying the spa, walking around the landscaped gardens, and dining at the hotel’s various restaurants. Rooms start at $1000/night.

This cafe is a cozier version of Luke’s diner from the show, with locals hanging out and enjoying the ambiance. I ordered an iced latte ($4.25) and a fried green tomato egg sandwich ($7.50). Both were simple and delicious.

It is very reminiscent of the bookstore in Stars Hollow that she always visits. This cozy small town bookstore has a great selection. My favorite part was the table dedicated to books about Gilmore Girls.

This local clothing store has cute, cozy, and preppy options for fall in New England. You’ll likely find something to wear that’s Rory Gilmore approved, like a cable knit sweater.
