why i regretted jc (as a raw 9 girlie)

hi guys! i'm here to share why jc is #NotForMe (still pushing my way through tho 😭) since olvls is coming to an end for this year ! 🥳🥳 it will be a little lengthy but i'm here to share my exp :" #realtalk

for context, i took olvls last year, which makes me a current j1 girl ! my raw r5 was 9, and nett 5. my current subj combi is BMEL !

coming from a neighbourhood secondary school, mugging culture was a stranger to me becos my school was rly just not academically inclined 😅😅 AND i am someone who does SUPER last minute revisions my WHOLE secondary school life, olvls included. i remember just flipping through my notes ONCE the night before exams 🤣🤣 but clearly that DID NOT work out through my year as a j1 student :' i flunked my mid years HORRENDOUSLY (Us for all my h2s) and promos was not that much better (but i managed to advance🥹🥹)

but here are some reasons why i REGRETTED jc

1. mugging

jc life is all about mugging which is really NOT my thing, simply paying attention in class can possibly allow you a pass but NOT A GOOD GRADE. for me, econs was just common sense (or so i thought) and i went into my promos exam with 2 days of studying CONTENT, ended up with an E. 🥲 and math is really about drilling the questions (which i did not) and ended up with an S for promos. biology was a U all the way becos i simply didnt know what was going on 😂😂

2. heavy focus on academics

all schools PREACH about holistic development, but it is not always the case. MANY (if not all) activities out of academic pursuits (e.g work attachment prog, being an ogl etc) HEAVILY focus on your academic grades. this puts you at a HUGEEE disadvantage if you're not doing well academically becos then your graduation cert wouldnt have much (unless youre very active in your CCA). also, you miss out on alot of opportunities simply becos youre not doing well in your subjects

3. toxic environment

jc is where ALL the closet muggers come together where they'll say they did not study (trust me they probably grinded every second of the day) and pursuade you to not too. other than that, all the tea and drama SPREADS like wildfire, when one thing happens, the next second the WHOLE school knows about it (i thought people were just exaggerating but i've came to realise IT IS the case)

4. it gets lonely

this is dependent on you tho, since i came from a neighbourhood school, i was on my own becos no one i knew from my school went to the same jc as me. so when i first started jc, everyone had their own group of friends and clique already 🥲🥲 and it'll be difficult to join a friend group where everyone already knows each other for a period of time. after awhile, however, you'll get to know your peers, make some new friends and form cliques, but they will almost always choose their own group of friends they've knew since the start.

these are some reasons why i regretted jc but i think the list goes on 😅😅. jc may be your thing but it defo isn't mine becos i'm a more hands on person as compared to a mugger 😭😭 but i'd say find your motivator if you're struggling, mine is my boyfriend ❤️
