How to write a thoughtful birthday card 💌

Writing cards is one of my favorite ways to express how much someone means to me. Although expressing myself through writing has always come pretty naturally to me, I recognized there is a general structure I follow and common themes that I include when I’m writing a card for someone.

Try out this structure for writing a card if you don’t know where to start:

1️⃣ Start with sharing your favorite traits about that person.

Some of the traits I love about my friends and family are that they are funny, creative, thoughtful, caring, courageous, good listeners, welcoming, generous, and adventurous.

2️⃣ Reflect on what they’ve accomplished, how they’ve grown, and/or how they’ve impacted you in the past year.

I also like sharing my favorite memories with them in the past year and if there was something new I learned about them.

3️⃣ Write what you’re looking forward to for them and/or in your relationship with them.

Maybe there’s a goal they’re seeking to accomplish in the next year that you want to wish them well in, or something you’re looking forward to doing together.
