HDL noodles with free ice cream?!🍦| food review

HDL finally opened its tiktok-viral noodle chain in jurong point (a win for us westies! 🎊) and my family immediately went down to give it a try. 😋 while we had planned to head down around noon, the hype over the noodle chain had clearly not subsided as a queue was starting to form a few minutes before the store's opening. 😱

because of this sudden info, my family and i rushed to push our lunch (brunch?? 🤔) plans a little earlier and joined the queue as the store opened. 🥹 if you're planning to give this store a try during the weekends, please head down earlier so that you don't have to fight for a seat! 🫠 now, on to the review! 😁

🍅 tomato shrimp ball noodles | $12.90

so everyone in my family got this for their noodles, and i must say the flavour in the soup was sublime. 👌 if you're a fan of the hdl tomato base, you should definitely get this as it's essentially the same soup for a cheaper price. 😉 they were super generous with the shrimp balls as well, which is great if you're a huge shrimp fan! 🦐

🥬 pickled vegetable fish noodles | $9.90

on the other hand, i picked this dish as my main because i'm a huge pickled veggie soup fan, and i knew that hdl wouldn't disappoint when it comes to their soups. 😆 however, i was quite disappointed at the quality as the soup was heavily watered down, and you could hardly taste the pickled-ness of the veggies. 😢 the fish slices, while generous as well, were a little undercooked - making this dish really underwhelming for me. 🙅‍♀️ i wouldn't recommend it at all, unless you're someone who likes watered down pickled veggie soup.

🥒 sweet and sour cucumber | $3

for the side dishes, you could have free reign over what you wanted (as seen in the second picture) and you sinply just have to pick what you want and place it on your tray before you order your noodles. 😄 my sister picked this sweet and sour cucumber side, which was heavenly and really well-marinated. 👍

🥚 braised quail egg | $3

like most usual braised quail egg sides, this dish did not disappoint, and all of the eggs were cooked to perfection. 😋 i'm really picky about quail eggs due to previous mala experiences, but at hi-noodles, i was surprised to note that none of these were too tough or sour for my liking. 😚

🍗 fried chicken cutlet | $3

another glorious pick by my growing sister, the fried chicken cutlet was pretty good as well. 🤩 it wasn't dry at all and had a lot of juices flowing when we bit into it, which was a delight! however, i got a little sick of it after a few bites as i'm not a huge cutlet fan, but i would highly recommend trying this. 😆

🍠 QQ sweet potato balls | $3

if i could describe heaven with one side dish, it would be this. 🥰 trust me, this is the side dish that you have to fight for at hi-noodles because everyone was grabbing it (for a good reason! 🤤). these potato balls were cruncy on the outside and absolutely chewy on the inside. 😘 it was hard to control myself after just one bite, and my family had each gotten a serving for themselves because it's that good. 😙 this was definitely the star of the show, and for a really good price as well! 🤗

🤔 would i recommend it?

definitely, 100%! 🥰 while the noodles were a hit or miss, the sides definitely made up for it, and with every order, you get a token for free ice cream 🍦 as well! i didn't get to try it when i went as the machine had some problems, but we got our tokens and came back the next day to redeem it. overall, it's really affordable and quite worth it if you're looking for an hdl-inspired meal without having to break the bank. 🐖💸 given it's a casual eatery, don't go expecting the stellar service that hdl is known to offer as most staff are busy fulfilling orders and helping customers scan their items.
