Why is everyone SO OBSESSED with SQ?? 80k VIEWS 🫶🏼

As an ex SQ stewardess, I still get asked ALOT about SQ even though I’ve left SQ a few years ago. I’m still labeled as “the SQ stewardess” and rn I’m just used to it lol.

I understand the hype but at the same time, I don’t because coming from SQ, I don’t find us exceptionally outstanding 😅😅 Like we’re just okay??? But I guess their branding works ✨

Here are some FAQ I get as an ex SQ stewardess:

1. Do you miss flying?

Flying as a career? No.

Flying and get to travel for free? Of cos yes! But it’s not something that I think of every day lol. So my usual answer is “I don’t think about it”. The truth is also because I’ve a life and there’s no reason for me to keep thinking abt it haha

2. Will you go back flying? No. 😂

3. Are there really alot of scandals in SQ? 😏😏

Hahahaha tbh.. it’s not as rampant as everyone thinks! It’s not logical that there’s always someone one every flight that you want or can have a scandal with? And tech crew?? 98% of the time, they are in the cockpit and if you’re not working in the most forward cabin (that serves them), you’ll only see them at the end of the flight lol. But I must say, there are opportunities! You have the whole hotel room to yourself to do the deed lol. But again you do you as an adult and bear the consequences.

It really boils down to individual. If you know how to draw the line and say no, you definitely can! But I must say, more could just be heavy flirting, go out for dinner/ drinks without any happy ending. Just enjoying another’s company during the duration of the flight/ station and that’s it! 😜

4. What’s the most memorable flight?

I’ve encountered DEATH on board. We’re trained as first responders (and attend refreshers yearly) but such incidents are very rare so when it happened, it’s pretty much our first time and I remember it clearly up till today.

Other incident that was stressful was when there was a shooting incident in LAX airport when we were in LA, almost checking out. We had a call that our flight will be delayed as they have closed the airport and so not know when will they resume. We were almost ready, mostly for the ladies, hair and make up was done and we were contemplating whether to remove it or not, or if we want to go grab a quick lunch before departure. But due to the uncertainty, it was hard to decide. What if we’re out and suddenly the airport opens and we would require to report asap. Which was what happened.. haha. Thankfully I was still in my room and decided to not remove my hair and make up but was taking a nap (it was afternoon in LA so jetlag should hit soon lol) There were some crew, mostly guys, who were out to grab lunch. But luckily they do not need that much time to get ready.

It was a mad rush to the airport > gate > departure.

Also there was a time constraint to be considered. We had to take off by a certain time (which was SO TIGHT) because we were landing into NRT and they had a curfew for flights taking off and landing. We were taking consideration also that the flight will depart NRT to SIN and MUST take off before the curfew time, and yk there’s no way Japan allow further delay. So if we didn’t take off on time, the plane could not have sufficient time to prepare for NRT-SIN (you need to consider cleaning of ac, cargo, refueling etc so some time is definitely needed). It was also the first time that I actually saw the Captain stepped up and ensure we are all together in achieving a successful prep for the flight.

5. What’s the worst flights to do?

There are a few infamous flights that crew absolutely hate and one of them being HKG turnaround(specifically A380 ac) which I hated too because of its long hours.

Personally, I hated Paris because pax are so demanding and once we finished the entire wines we had onboard 🥲 and BKK because sometimes there’s alot of Singaporeans (can be the entire pax are Singaporeans) and they’re just not the nicest tbh. Let’s leave it as that.

Also although I love South Africa, the allowance is too low cos of the low cost of living there so about $400 for a 4-5 days and abt 9-10hrs of flight time is not worth it! As compared to doing a 3 days Aussie 4/ 7-8hrs for almost the same allowance!

6. Is training really hard?

YES I HATED STC. It’s just SO RIGID and they treat you like a child. I heard it’s worst now cos they keep phones away during class (I mean we’re all adults, who does this?!) but it wasn’t during my time but I hated it. Everyone seems so fake and we really have to fake it to make it. 🤮

7. How do we sleep onboard?

Crew bunk! It’s really just a tiny bed that is just nice for us to lie down. Airbus bunks don’t allow us to sit up straight in them so we would crawl in 🤣 Boeing you can atleast sit up straight!

Everyone has their routine when they go for crew rests. Some will change out of their uniform, some just wear a jacket over their kebaya. i did the latter but unzipped my top underneath the jacket because it’s SO TIGHT. It’s also SO COLD in the crew bunk so when I’m working in business, I would take a duvet from business, wear socks, earplugs, mask, and wipe my lipstick off! For long crew rest (min 3hrs), I’ll also removed my contact lens (I wear daily lenses) and wear them before going out. So many things going on yes!! I’ve to come back atleast 30mins before so I’ll be ready (hair/ make up) once rest time is over. Note we don’t have designated toilets so we also need to queue. Stewards usually will only come down 5-10mins cos they take a shorter time lol. 😜

I would pack differently in my cabin bag whenever it’s a long flight because there’s alot to prep for one crew rest!

8. How do we maintain our make up?

Base is key really! Esp for eye make up, putting on a base is so important because eyeshadow and eyeliner stays well and throughout. I personally also use face spray and Glow Recipe face spray is the best!!! Also, we have make ups in our bag (mine has compact powder, eyeliner, lip liner and ofcos lipstick!) My lipstick is usually in my kebaya (lol) because there’s really NO TIME to keep going to your handbag to grab it.

Those really are just SOME of the questions I get! Usually there’s more esp when people first found out I was a crew. People get so intrigued and sometime they think they know more LOL 😂
