How To: Road Trip with Kids

We just completed a 24hr road trip (one way) that we drove without stopping besides at the occasional rest stop or gas station.

Here’s how we did it:

🎒Toy Bag

A bag designated to toys. Filled to the top with animals, dinosaurs, monster trucks, and LeapFrog books/tablet.

💧Water

Lots of water. Someone will always be thirsty and water is needed to make bottles for the baby.

🐠 Visual Stimulation

For my 4 mo th old, this Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother has been amazing. It simulates a fish tank with moving fish, plays lullaby’s, and illuminates a blue light.

For my 3 year old, we have the Amazon Fire Tablet with games and movies downloaded.

✋🏼Tactile Sensory

For my 4 month old, this cube from Amazon has been great. It has crinkle foil on 2 sides, 2 animals, a mirror with a wooden ring, and soft fur.

For my 3 year old I got him “squishy balls” and stretchy rubbery toys.

🔋This DeWalt charge is a game changer for long trips. We can charge multiple electronics at once and it can be moved around the van.

🧺Diaper Basket

I always put together a diaper basket so everything is all in one place. The basket will have anything I need to quickly access (bottle/formula, diaper/wipes, cream/powder, paci/teethers, etc.).

🗑️ Trashcan

The last item that is a game changer is a small trashcan. This is place in the back between the bucket seats. All trash goes directly into the trashcan and it is emptied at every rest stop or gas station.

These hacks made the trip bearable and I’d do it again! (&& we did, 5 days later).
