Working from home can blur the lines between '
‘office' and 'sanctuary', leading to burnout. I’ve often times felt the anxiety and stress caused by not taking breaks - especially since there never seems to be a clear end to the workday when I’m wfh.
Here are some things I consciously attempt to do when I’m working from home — a 5-minute self-care sprint to stay fresh:
🍵 Stretch & Sip: Stand up, reach for the sky, touch your toes, sway side to side. Do whatever makes you feel good! I’m a big fan of swinging my entire body and arms in a circular motion since it loosens up my muscles after sitting for a long time. Get up and make a cup of your favorite drink (be it tea, coffee, juice, water!, whatever you like). And most importantly give yourself 5 full minutes of no screen time - step away from your laptop or phone- and just REST. Taking a walk is also great.
👀 Look Away: Eye strain is real. Practice the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It might be easy to forget so just rest your eyes every now and then when you remember!
💆 Massage your temples and the areas around your eyes. Remember to be gentle!
🧘♀️ Or just keep it simple! Move away from your laptop or phone. Sit or stand somewhere else, close your eyes for 30 seconds, and just breathe. Take deep breaths. I find that even by doing this for 30 seconds, my mind is a lot clearer.
Small breaks can prevent big breakdowns. Hope this helps!
