Aside from the main renovation cost, buying kitchen appliances burned the biggest hole in our wallet 🥹 Not a surprise, considering the amount of electronics required in the kitchen for it to be fully functional.

💸 In this post, we’ll be sharing how much we spent in total for our kitchen appliances, so you don’t get shocked like we did!

🫣 Although we did not opt for top-of-the-line items (in fact, some of the items we chose were the cheapest in their range), the total cost of the appliances still rack up to an amount that can pay off a minor renovation. However, we believe that all the appliances we bought are necessities and we recommend everyone to have them at home if the budget allows.

🍲 LG 25L Microwave Oven : $238

🍰 Brandt Built-in Oven : $799

❄️ Samsung 362L 2-Door Fridge, 3 Ticks : $760

💸 If you’re on a limited budget, here are some tips to save $$ while buying kitchen appliances:

* Compare prices across stores and ask if the store you go to are able to match the prices you find elsewhere ↔️ Some stores have a price-matching system in place, so it doesn’t hurt to ask.

* Consider buying appliances from smaller chains like Hoe Kee, Mega Discount Store or even Shopee. Especially on Shopee, the prices can be really attractive because the stores don’t need to spend money on rent and are able to give more discounts to their customers. We bought many of our appliances from Shopee and so far haven’t run into any problems 👌🏻

* Buy items from the same brand and ask if you’re able to get a discount for purchasing the items as a set. Many stores match similar items together and you’re able to save more $$ if you buy items from the same set ⚪️🔵🔴

* If using a credit card, strategise when you buy your appliances to maximise the points you get from your purchase. Bulk-buying your appliances is an easy way to hit your minimum credit card spend! 💳

* Buy only items that will affect your carpentry measurements first (e.g : built-in oven, fridge, sink, hob, hood, etc.) and buy the loose items later when the budget allows (e.g : rice cooker, air fryer, kettle, etc.).

* We recommend buying items that are energy efficient ⚡️ even though they might cost more upfront, because they will save you more money in the long run (e.g : buying a fridge with 3 ticks or more).

* For built-in items, don't buy items that are too cheap or of questionable quality because they will be a headache to change in the future, costing you more $$.
